Why are so many people against the dislike button disappering, it’s just a button.
A tutorial with a lot of dislikes is probably outdated, fake, or even a scam. Dislikes can’t be deleted or disabled by the video uploader like comments can.
When a corporation (like for example, Nintendo) releases a video announcing a new product, no one bats an eye. But if that video has a 1 to 10 like to dislike ratio (like Nintendo’s announcement video for a $49.99 subscription that offers nothing you can’t get on the internet, at a higher quality, for free), that makes them look really bad. And those dislikes being public let viewers know audience opinion at a glance, without having to dig through Reddit or Twitter or whatever (Comments aren’t good for that bc they can be deleted/disabled, and the ones that the uploader likes tend to go to the top.)
This change isn’t being made to help Youtubers or viewers. They are doing this to keep corporations happy.
If you deadname someone in the death note it kills you
In one of the Death Note live action movies (I think it was Light Up the New World), a man changes his name after harboring guilt about past crimes and trying to atone (not even answering to that name). He’s only killed after his new name gets put in the book, since he shed his old name.
Man wasn’t trans, but if the logic applied to him, logic should apply to trans people too!
This rule implies that birth names are not necessarily the names given to you at birth.
That means you can change your name or consider yourself to have a new name and the death note recognizes it.
Death Note is an ally.
Diversity win! this Death Note kills trans people but doesn’t deadname them!
i think “video games aren’t really the violent child-corrupting threat some parents worry they are” and “certain circles of gamer culture are incredibly toxic and can lead people down dangerous/hateful ideological rabbit holes” are ideas that can absolutely coexist
Artificial violence is not actually a corrupting influence but hanging out with assholes sure is.
also, I think we could probably recognize that like… there is a difference between a game where you beat up a half demon alien cyborg or whatever, and a game partially funded by the US military that glorifies hyper-realistic military operations in a “middle east” coded setting, where everyone with brown skin is an enemy that needs to be gunned down. Like, those things are different.
Discord’s CEO is on twitter hinting about their apparent future involvement with NFTs/crypto.
In case you aren’t already aware, cryptocurrency is digital currency that sucks because it consumes an absurd amount of energy and computer parts, and NFTs are a way of creating false scarcity for digital items, which are bought and sold with crypto currency, and also suck. Here is an article about why that shit sucks. The article has additional information. Here is a twitter account that also documents NFT thefts & scams (NFTs are often stolen art sold without permission).
HERE IS WHAT YOU SHOULD DO ASAP:
1. CANCEL NITRO. Don’t wait around for them to reverse course or apologize. Cancel it now, choose “other” when it asks why you’re canceling and write in your answer. They need to see the financial backlash right now. You can always re-sub if they backpedal, but right now they need the impetus to do the backpedaling.
2. GO HERE to their feedback forum. make a thread and tell them you cancelled nitro and don’t want them involved with crypto garbage. contribute to other threads if you see one that piques your interest. EXTRA CREDIT: downvote this thread, boo them, downvote the crypto dingdongs in the comments.
3. If you have twitter, tweet at them. tweet at @discord and reply to Jason’s tweet with whatever dunking and booing you feel like.
4. PASS IT AROUND. Tell your friends with nitro. Tell your favorite group chats and servers. Encourage them to do the same.
This is one of those situations where we need massive and decisive backlash RIGHT NOW to nip it in the bud. Your input really does matter right now. Shouting down shit like this has gotten even companies like Patreon to reverse course on bad decisions. Even the stupidest tech bros do respond to enough screaming. So SCREAM. Remind them where their real money comes from, and scare them away from the planet-destroying fake money.
For those of you that are wondering, please have one of the fiest pieces of radio comedy ever:
the first time i watched this i laughed so hard i nearly puked
THIRD BASE
Since I was 8 and found out about this for the first time my family has always followed up on someone saying “I don’t know,” with shouting “THIRD BASE”
That animatronic video is great for people who may not be as familiar with the game of baseball, too. The different positions, and such.
I wouldn’t even call this a bit, it’s more of an art piece really.
the internet HAS been turned into a series of easily swallowable pills for quick consumption and standardization and I don’t think it’s ‘boomery’ to discuss how the internet no longer feels like a wild wild west and has been massively gentrified for quick access to anything you could ever want or need and that next hit of dopamine. there is a difference between 'social media bad’ and 'our experiences online are increasingly manufactured by algorithms looking to make money from scraping metrics of data about who we are to either sell us stuff or sell who we are to people who will sell us stuff’
